Ring Size Guide
UK, US, EU & Japan
How to measure your finger at home, convert between global sizing systems, and find your perfect fit — whether you're buying for yourself or gifting.
Choosing the right ring size shouldn't be guesswork. Whether you're stacking midi rings from our ring collection, buying a gift, or ordering from outside the UK, getting the fit right first time saves hassle — and returns.
Ring sizes vary between people, between countries, between ring styles and even between morning and evening. A UK size M is not the same as a US size M, which matters whether you're choosing a 925 silver ring or an adjustable MiniCharm™ stacking ring. A wide band needs a different size from a slim one.
The quick answer
- ✔ Most common sizes: UK M (US 6¼) for women, UK T (US 9¾) for men
- ✔ Measure in the evening, when your fingers are at their natural size
- ✔ Between two sizes? Go up, not down
- ✔ Wide band (6mm or more)? Half a size up
- ✔ US size 11 or larger? That is UK V½ and up — see the larger sizes section
Already know your size?
Every ring is listed in UK sizes, and many are adjustable — so there's a fit for you whichever way you measure.

How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home
You don't need a jeweller to find your size. Both methods below are accurate if done carefully. Measure the finger you plan to wear the ring on — your ring finger may be a different size to your other fingers, and your dominant hand is typically half a size larger.
String or Paper Strip
- Cut a thin strip of non-stretchy paper
- Wrap it snugly around the base of your finger
- Mark where the paper overlaps
- Measure the marked length in millimetres
- Match to the circumference column in the chart below
Measure an Existing Ring
- Find a ring that fits the correct finger well
- Place it flat on a ruler
- Measure the inner diameter in millimetres (not the outer edge)
- Match to the diameter column in the chart below
Time your measurement right
Fingers swell in warm weather and shrink when cold. Measure in the evening when your hands are at their natural size — not first thing in the morning or after exposure to cold. If you're between two sizes, go up, not down.

Understanding Ring Size Systems
Every country measures rings differently. The UK uses an alphabetical scale (A–Z+), the US uses numbers, Europe uses millimetre circumference, and China/Korea/Japan also use a numeric millimetre system. All are based on the internal measurement of the ring. Our jewellery glossary has a ring sizer chart you can check against.
United Kingdom
Alphabetical scale, A to Z+5. Half-sizes exist (e.g. K½). Most common women's size: M. Most common men's size: T.
United States
Numeric scale, 1–15. Quarter and half sizes available. Average women's size: 6–7. Average men's size: 9–10.
Europe
Based on inner circumference in millimetres. Range typically EU 44–76. Directly corresponds to the mm circumference measurement.
Japan / Korea / China
Japan and Korea use a numeric scale: the number is roughly the inside circumference minus 40 mm, so size 14 ≈ 54 mm ≈ US 7. China and Hong Kong number rings differently, so always check the brand's chart in millimetres.
Which Ring Sizes Are Most Popular in the UK?
Based on reported sales data from UK jewellers, size M is the single most ordered ring size for women. The range K–N covers the majority of women's ring purchases. For men, size T is dominant, with R–U covering most orders.
Buying as a gift and don't know the size? Size M is your safest starting point for women, size T for men. Rings are easier to size down than up — so if unsure, go one size larger. Budget-friendly ZincJewel™ rings are a low-risk way to gift when the size is a guess. All JewelHub rings can be exchanged for a different size within 30 days.
Ring Size Conversion Chart — UK, US, EU, Japan
Highlighted rows mark the most commonly ordered sizes in the UK. All measurements use the inner circumference and diameter of the ring band. EU size is the circumference in millimetres, and the Japan/Korea number is roughly the circumference minus 40.

Things That Affect Your Ring Size
Temperature
Fingers swell in heat and shrink in cold. Avoid measuring after exercise, a hot shower, or in cold weather.
Time of day
Fingers are at their largest in the evening due to natural swelling throughout the day. Measure then for the most accurate fit.
Ring width
Wider bands (6mm+) — like a bold chain ring — fit more snugly than slim bands. If choosing a wide ring, go half a size up from your usual measurement. Chunky resin and enamel rings are often wide too, so the same rule applies.
Dominant hand
Your dominant hand is typically half a size larger. If buying for the right hand, measure that hand specifically.
Knuckle size
If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, size for the knuckle so it slides on — the ring will sit loosely but securely.
Buying as a gift
When guessing, choose larger — resizing down is easier and cheaper than resizing up. UK M for women, T for men is the safest default — see our guide to gifting jewellery by material.

Big Fingers? Finding Rings in US Size 10 and Up
If you wear a US 10, 11 or larger, finding a ring that fits can be frustrating. Most ranges are cut for the average hand, so the biggest sizes are the first to sell out, or are never made at all. It is a fit problem, not a you problem, and there are ways around it.
| US | UK | Diameter (mm) | Circumference (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| US 9 | UK R½ | 19.0 | 59.7 |
| US 10 | UK T½ | 19.8 | 62.3 |
| US 11 | UK V½ | 20.6 | 64.9 |
| US 12 | UK X½ | 21.5 | 67.5 |
| US 13 | UK Z½ | 22.3 | 70.1 |
So a US 11 is a UK V½, about 20.6mm across the inside and roughly 65mm around. Use the chart above to match any other measurement.
Size for your knuckle
If your knuckle is wider than the base of your finger, choose the size that slides over it. Wider fingers also swell more through the day, so measure in the evening.
Half a size up on wide bands
Bands of 6mm or more sit tighter than slim ones. A wide band in your usual size can feel too small.
Look for adjustable and open bands
An adjustable ring flexes across two or three sizes. Our DuoTone OrbitBand stainless steel ring adjusts across UK S, T and U.
Check the metal first
Sterling silver can usually be resized by a jeweller. Stainless steel and plated rings usually cannot, so it pays to get the size right before you buy.
Measure the right hand
Your dominant hand is typically half a size larger. Measure the finger you will wear the ring on, in the evening.

Ring Sizing Terms, Explained
UK ring size
The British system uses letters, with half sizes in between (such as N½). To find your diameter, wrap paper around the base of your finger, measure the length in millimetres and divide by 3.14.
US ring size
The American system uses numbers, typically 3 to 13 for adults, with half and quarter sizes. When converting between systems, always compare in millimetres.
Adjustable ring
An open or flexible band that fits a range of sizes, usually two or three UK letters. Many of our 925 silver rings state their range, such as UK M–O. Adjust slowly and evenly, and avoid bending the same point repeatedly.

The glossary also has a ring size chart, a printable ring sizer and a ring styles guide you can save or print.
Ring Size FAQs
What is the most common ring size in the UK?
Size M (about US 6¼) is the most ordered size for women and size T (about US 9¾) for men, based on reported UK jeweller sales data. The K–N range (US 5¼ to 6¾) covers most women's orders, and R–U (US 8¾ to 10¼) covers most men's.
How do I measure my ring size at home?
Wrap a thin strip of non-stretchy paper around the base of your finger, mark the overlap and measure the length in millimetres, then match it to the circumference column in the chart. Alternatively, measure the inner diameter of a ring that already fits. You can also print our ring sizer PDF.
Should I go up or down if I'm between two sizes?
Go up. A slightly loose ring is easier to live with than one that won't pass your knuckle, and resizing down is easier and cheaper than resizing up.
Do wide rings need a bigger size?
Yes. Bands of 6mm or more fit more snugly than slim bands, so go half a size up from your usual measurement.
What does an adjustable ring mean?
An adjustable ring has an open or flexible band that fits a range of sizes, usually two or three UK letters. It's a practical choice for gifts and for fingers that change size through the day. Shop adjustable rings.
What UK size is a US size 11?
A US 11 is UK V½, with an inside diameter of about 20.6mm. US 10 is UK T½, US 12 is UK X½ and US 13 is UK Z½. See the larger sizes section for how to shop for them.
What if my ring doesn't fit?
Every JewelHub ring comes with a 30-day exchange guarantee, so you can swap it for a different size.
What size should I buy as a gift?
If you can't find out the size, choose UK M (US 6¼) for women or UK T (US 9¾) for men, and go one size larger if you're unsure. ZincJewel™ rings are a low-risk way to gift when the size is a guess.
