Starburst Ring — Thirteen Stones, Seven of Them in a Star

Thirteen clear zirconia run right around this band, set flush into the silver so that nothing stands proud of the surface. Seven of them sit at the centre of a small engraved starburst, its points cut into the metal and radiating outward; the other six are plain circles. They alternate — star, circle, star, circle — all the way round, so the ring reads as a line of light with a rhythm inside it rather than a uniform row. 1.8mm tall, 1.4mm thick, 1.018g of solid 925 sterling silver stamped S925.

The engraved starburst is a very old trick and a very good one. 1. Are the stones real diamonds?
No, and we would not describe them as such. They are thirteen clear cubic zirconia, flush-set into the band. Zirconia is a lab-grown stone, cut and polished like a gemstone — far harder-wearing and brighter than glass or paste, and genuinely beautiful in daylight. It is not a diamond, and the price reflects that honestly.

2. What does flush-set mean, and why does it matter here?
The stone sits sunk into the metal with the silver burnished over its edge to hold it, instead of being gripped by claws standing up around it. It matters on a ring you wear daily: nothing snags on knitwear, nothing catches when you put your hand in a pocket, and there are no prongs to bend or wear thin. 3. Does the design go all the way round?
