Bow Ring – A Tied Ribbon in Twisted 999 Fine Silver
This ring is a bow, tied and left as it fell. Two loops sit above two tails that trail down and around to become the band, and the whole length is drawn in twisted wire, so the light runs along it in a spiral rather than sitting flat. The bow measures 12.5mm across and 7.64mm tall, which is enough to be unmistakable from a distance without being a statement ring. It weighs 1.35g in 999 fine silver, 99.9% pure, certified by the maker.
The band is open at the back and sits at roughly UK J, adjusting a little either side. There is no fineness stamp on this piece – the twisted wire simply has no flat surface to take one – so the purity comes from the maker’s certificate rather than a mark you can read on the ring. 1. Why is there no 925 or 999 stamp on this ring?
Because there is nowhere to put one. The band is twisted wire the whole way round with no flat inner face to strike a mark on. The purity is documented by the maker’s certificate instead. UK hallmarking is only compulsory for silver at 7.78g and above, and this ring is 1.35g.
2. Is it still real silver?
Yes – 999 fine silver, 99.9% pure, which is a higher purity than sterling. The absence of a stamp reflects how the piece is made, not what it is made of.
3. UK J is small – will it fit me?
It sits at about a J and opens a little either side. J is a slim finger size, so this is one to measure for, or to wear on the little finger if you normally take a larger size.
4. Will the twisted wire lose its shape?
