Enamel Owl Charm - Big White Eyes and a Green Wing
An owl perched on a branch in gold-tone stainless steel, with the breast feathers cut as fine overlapping scallops and the wing laid across the body in raised relief. Two large white enamel eye rings with black enamel pupils give it the wide-awake stare that makes an owl charm work, and a single stroke of green enamel marks the wing. It stands 23mm tall by 14mm wide and just 1.8mm deep at 1.95g.
The colour is doing real work here. Most of our steel charms rely on shape alone; three enamel colours on a piece this size let the face read instantly from across a table, and the green wing keeps it from looking like a novelty. Enamel is fired into recesses in the metal rather than glued on top, so unlike a set stone there is nothing that can fall out. The reverse is a smooth satin dome with no enamel and no detail.

Enamel is fired or filled into recesses in the metal, so unlike a glued stone there is nothing to work loose - but it can chip on a hard knock, and strong solvents dull its gloss. 1. Will the enamel come off?
It cannot fall out the way a glued crystal can, because it is set into recesses cut in the steel rather than sitting on the surface. It can chip if you knock it hard against something, which is the one thing worth avoiding.
2. Can the back be engraved?
Not really. The reverse is smooth but domed and satin-finished rather than flat, so it is not an engraving panel - and engraving would cut through the finish. Choose one of our flat-backed charms if you want a name or a date.
3. Is the green wing on both sides?
No. All the enamel and all the feather detail are on the front; the back is plain satin gold. That is normal for enamelled charms and it is what keeps the piece at 1.95g.
4. Is it magnetic?

5. Is it a good graduation gift?
