Classic Flying Pig Charm - When Pigs Fly, Worn on the Wrist
A pig in mid-flight, legs stretched fore and aft and a pair of feathered wings lifted off its back, cast in gold-tone stainless steel. The wings carry individually cut feather lines and stand proud of the body rather than lying flat against it, which is what stops the charm reading as a pig with a lump on its back. Snout, trotters and the little curl of tail are all there. It measures 17mm wide by 16mm tall and 2.5mm deep at 2.2g.
It is one of the few charms we make that is a joke and a wish at the same time, and the proportions lean into it - almost square, wider than it is tall, caught mid-leap rather than posed. The front holds all the modelling; the reverse is a flat, high-polish panel following the same outline, which keeps the weight sensible and gives it a smooth side against the skin.

"When pigs fly" is recorded in Scots as far back as the 1580s, and it has always meant never. Which is exactly why people started wearing it - the pig is the impossible thing, and putting wings on it is a small, stubborn argument with the word never. No stones and no enamel means nothing here can work loose. The gold tone is ion-plated onto stainless steel, far harder-wearing than the flash plating used on costume charms - keep it away from perfume, chlorine and abrasive cloths and it holds its colour. 1. Can the back be engraved?
Yes. This is one of the few animal charms we make with a genuinely flat polished reverse. The body gives a reasonable panel, though the outline is irregular - expect initials or a short date rather than a full name. Ask us first if the exact wording matters.
2. Do the wings stick out?
They stand proud of the body, which is the point of the design, but the whole charm is only 2.5mm deep so there is nothing to snag. It sits flatter than most of our sculpted animals.
3. Is it magnetic?
No - this one tests completely non-magnetic. Some steel charms respond slightly and some do not; both are normal, because cast stainless steel varies in ferrite content. Full explanation in Is Magnetic Steel Jewellery Fake?.
4. Who is it for?
Someone starting something unlikely - a business, a move, a career change - or anyone who was told no and did it anyway. It also works straightforwardly as a Chinese zodiac Pig charm.
5. How does it attach?
