Classic Cat and Moon Charm - A Cat Sitting in the Crescent
An open crescent moon in gold-tone stainless steel with a small cat seated inside it, back turned, tail curled around its paws and head lifted as though it has been there a while. The cut-out between cat and crescent is what makes it work: light passes straight through, so the charm reads as a drawing rather than a solid lump, and at 12.5mm wide by 15mm tall it stays legible at that size.
It is 2.5mm deep and weighs just 1.09g, which makes it one of the lightest pieces we stock - the charm to add when a bracelet is already carrying three or four heavier ones and you do not want to unbalance it. Both faces are modelled, so the cat is a cat whichever way the crescent swings. High polish throughout, no stones, no enamel.

No stones and no enamel means nothing here can work loose. The gold tone is ion-plated onto stainless steel, far harder-wearing than the flash plating used on costume charms - keep it away from perfume, chlorine and abrasive cloths and it holds its colour. FAQs
1. Is the cut-out fragile?
No. It is cast as one piece in stainless steel rather than pierced from thin sheet, so the crescent and the cat are structurally continuous. Steel is also considerably harder than the silver or brass usually used for openwork at this price.
2. Can the back be engraved?
No - it is modelled on both sides and largely open, so there is no panel to engrave. Our flat-backed charms are the ones for a name or a date.
3. Is it magnetic?
No - this one tests completely non-magnetic. Some steel charms respond slightly and some do not; both are normal, because cast stainless steel varies in ferrite content. Full explanation in Is Magnetic Steel Jewellery Fake?.
4. Why is it cheaper than the other cats?
Because it weighs less. At 1.09g there is genuinely less metal in it than in our sculpted cats, and we would rather price by what you are actually holding than by how detailed a piece looks in a photograph.
5. How does it attach?
It comes on a jump ring, which sits over a chain link or a charm carrier. If you would rather clip it on and off by hand, we can add a small lobster clasp - just ask when you order.
