Classic Teddy Bear Charm - Gold Stainless Steel - 17x20mm
Classic Teddy Bear Charm - The Traditional One, in Polished Gold
No stones at all - just gold and line work. This is the teddy in its oldest charm-bracelet form: sitting square with both legs out front, arms at its sides, and every feature cut into the metal rather than set on top of it. Fine engraved lines outline the ears, ring the eyes, mark the muzzle and circle each paw pad, and the whole thing is finished in high-polish gold-tone stainless steel. At 17.2mm across and 19.5mm tall it is one of the largest bears in the collection, yet only 3.8mm deep and 3.85g, so it lies flat and light against the wrist.
Charm bracelets were built on pieces like this long before anything was pave-set. What carries a design with no stones is the drawing, and the engraving here is crisp enough to survive at 17mm - the expression reads clearly from arm's length, which is not true of every gold teddy. It is the one to choose if the sparkling versions feel like too much, if you are building a bracelet with an antique feel, or if the piece is destined for a child. Add it to a JewelBuild™ stack, or wear it as a small pendant.

With no set stones and no pearls, this charm has none of the restrictions our crystal-set pieces carry - stainless steel is hypoallergenic, tarnish-resistant and happy through hand-washing, weather and workouts. A soft cloth brings the polish straight back, and the engraved lines can be brushed out with a soft dry brush. Full guidance at our Steel Care Card and the JewelCare™ hub.
FAQs
1. Why choose a plain bear over a sparkling one?
Because they age differently. Set stones date a piece to a moment; a well-drawn gold teddy has looked the same on charm bracelets for a century, and it will not look tired next to whatever you add in five years. It is also the safest choice for a child or for someone who wears very little jewellery.
2. Does the engraving wear away?
No - the lines are cut into the steel itself rather than printed or plated on, and stainless steel is considerably harder than gold or silver, so they hold their crispness through years of daily wear.
3. It reacts slightly to a magnet - is that a problem?
No. Cast stainless steel normally contains a small amount of ferrite, deliberately, because it stops the metal cracking as it solidifies - that is what a magnet finds. Copper and brass are entirely non-magnetic, so a magnetic response actually rules them out. Full explanation in Is Magnetic Steel Jewellery Fake?.
4. How does it attach?
It comes on a jump ring, which sits over a chain link or a charm carrier. If you would rather have it ready to clip on and off by hand, we can add a small lobster clasp - just ask when you order.
5. What does a bear charm mean?
Bears carry strength and protection in most traditions, and comfort in nearly all of them - the guardian and the soft toy at once. Explore the meanings behind our motifs at JewelMotif™.
6. Is it suitable as a gift?
It is the most universally safe bear we make - no sparkle to get wrong, no care instructions to pass on, and a shape that reads the same to a child and an adult. Every order arrives gift-ready - see JewelGift™.
How to Style the Classic Teddy Bear
Plain gold is the most forgiving thing you can put in a stack: it will not clash, and it gives the eye somewhere to rest between sparkling charms. Because it is broad and shallow it lies flatter than the sculptural bears, which makes it comfortable under a sleeve and good on a bracelet you wear all day. Set it against a heavily set piece like the Crystal Cuddle Bear and the contrast does the work. Browse the whole MiniCharm™ range, or start your stack at JewelBuild™.
