Emerald & Diamond Domed Ring – 64 Stones in Hallmarked 14K Gold

An oval emerald of roughly 5.7 x 5.1mm and approximately 0.66 carats sits high in four heavy gold claws at the crown of a domed band — and around it, 64 round diamonds totalling about 0.62 carats are set in a deliberate architecture. Two tight arcs of stones curve above and below the emerald, framing it north and south, while four channel-set ribs radiate outward across each shoulder like rays. Sixty-five stones in all, on a single ring.

The whole thing is worked in solid 14K gold, hallmarked 585, and at 6.97 grams it is the heaviest piece in our emerald range — it sits on the finger with genuine weight. The emerald itself is a deep, saturated green carrying strong jardin: the internal veils and crystals that form as an emerald grows in rock, and the clearest evidence a stone came out of the ground rather than a furnace. It is a UK N1/2 (US 7, EU 54), and there is one.

💡 Emeralds Need the Opposite Care to Ruby and Sapphire

Emerald is beryl, not corundum. At 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale it sounds hard, but the internal fractures that give it character also make it brittle — it can chip from a knock a sapphire would ignore, and this stone sits raised in claws rather than protected in a bezel. So: never use an ultrasonic or steam cleaner, avoid hot water and solvents, and clean with a soft cloth and a barely damp brush worked through the diamond channels. Have the four claws checked by a jeweller every couple of years. See our Gold Care Card for the metal.

FAQs

1. What does the 585 hallmark mean?
585 is the fineness mark for 14 karat — 585 parts pure gold per 1,000, or 58.5%. (750 is 18k; 375 is 9k.) It is solid gold all the way through, never plated, and it will not tarnish or mark your skin. 14K is also the harder of the two fine-gold standards, which genuinely matters on a ring carrying 64 set stones: the channels and claws hold their shape rather than spreading over time. Full detail is in what a UK gold hallmark really means, with a comparison in our 14k vs 18k gold guide.

2. There are marks inside the emerald — is that a fault?
No. Those are jardin — French for garden — the fine internal veils and crystals formed as the emerald grew. Virtually every natural emerald has them, and gemmologists use them to distinguish a genuine stone from a synthetic one, which comes out of the furnace clean. A flawless, evenly coloured green stone at this size would almost certainly be laboratory-grown. Jardin is the emerald's fingerprint. More on gemstone character and meaning is on our JewelMotif™ page.

3. Does this ring come with a gemstone certificate?
No — it is sold uncertificated, and we would rather say so plainly. The gold carries an independently struck 585 hallmark; the stone measurements, carat estimates and ring weight are our own, taken in-house. That is normal for individually sourced fine jewellery, where laboratory certification often costs more than it adds. Any gemmologist can examine it after purchase, and our returns window gives you time to do so.

4. Is this a halo ring?
Not in the strict sense, and the difference is worth knowing. A true halo encircles the centre stone completely. Here, two arcs of diamonds curve above and below the emerald while the sides stay open, and the sparkle then continues outward as channel-set ribs across the shoulders. The effect is directional rather than enclosing: the eye is led along the band toward the stone instead of ringing it.

5. What is UK N1/2, and will it fit me?
N1/2 is the half size between N and O — US 7, EU 54, with a 17.2mm internal diameter and a 54mm circumference. Measure against those figures rather than guessing, and note that a domed band feels snugger than a flat one at the same size. Our UK ring size guide has a printable method and a full UK-to-US chart. Resizing should be done by a jeweller who will remove the emerald first — heat is the one thing an emerald cannot survive — and the channel-set ribs cannot be altered.

6. Can I wear it every day?
With care. The band is solid and the diamonds are hard-wearing, but the emerald sits proud in claws and is the brittle element — it will chip on a hard knock in a way a sapphire would not. This is a ring for the office, for occasions, for anything that does not involve gripping or lifting. Take it off for the gym, gardening and washing up.

7. What occasion suits it?
Emerald is May's birthstone and the traditional gift for both the 20th and 35th wedding anniversary. At nearly seven grams with 65 stones, this reads as a celebration piece rather than a first gift — it suits marking something substantial. Every order arrives gift-ready; see JewelGift™, and JewelWhy™ for the cultural history behind the stones we use.

How to Style the Emerald Domed Ring

A domed band covered in stones is a complete statement — wear it alone on the ring or middle finger and keep the hand otherwise bare. Do not stack: a plain band pressed against channel-set ribs will wear both, and the radiating design needs clear space to read. All-yellow gold makes it easy to wear alongside whatever else you already own. Green and warm gold sit best against cream, camel, navy and black. Caring for Your Fine Gold Piece

14k and 18k gold is a precious metal investment. With proper care it holds its colour and quality indefinitely — fine gold does not tarnish, but it can scratch and dull without attention.

Daily wear Remove during heavy physical activity, cleaning, and gardening
Cleaning Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, soft brush — rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth
Storage Store separately — gold scratches easily when touching other metals
Professional care Annual professional polish recommended for fine pieces
Avoid Chlorine, bleach, harsh chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners for pieces with stones
