JewelSnap #004 · Silver guide
A stamp on silver tells you something, but not everything.
Why it helps to know
Knowing what the stamps mean helps you buy with confidence and look after your silver properly. Silver can be marked differently depending on where it was made, so a clear stamp from a seller you trust is a good place to start.
Where “925” comes from
Sterling silver is 92.5% silver mixed with other metal to make it strong enough for everyday wear. That standard has been used in Britain for hundreds of years, and UK silver hallmarking goes back to the 1300s.
