Jade and Diamond Halo Studs - Oval Cabochons in 18k Gold

An oval cabochon of natural jade on each ear, roughly 7 x 9.5mm, held in four yellow gold claws and ringed by a full halo of round diamonds set in white gold. Seventeen diamonds to a side, thirty-four across the pair, 0.72 carat in total. The jade is a strong, saturated green with lighter and darker zones visible through the dome. Made in 18k solid gold, 5.56 grams for the pair, on posts.

The halo cluster is one of the oldest arrangements in jewellery and it survives because of what it does optically rather than decoratively. A ring of small bright stones raises the apparent saturation of whatever sits inside it, so a green cabochon in a diamond surround reads greener than the same stone set alone. Setting the halo in white gold and the claws in yellow is the same trick applied twice: cool metal keeps the diamonds white, warm metal against the stone pushes the green forward.

Real Jade Checking Tip - Turn the Dome

A cabochon is best judged in motion. Tilt it slowly under a lamp and watch whether the colour stays put: natural jade shows zones that move and change depth as the angle changes, because the colour lives at different levels inside the stone. Colour that appears painted on, or that sits noticeably darker right at the rim where a dome is thinnest, is the pattern to question. Care guidance on our Jade Care Card.

FAQs

1. How large do they sit on the ear?
The jade is about 7 x 9.5mm and the halo adds a ring of small diamonds around it, so each earring is a little over a centimetre across - a proper cluster stud rather than a small one.

2. How many diamonds are there?
Thirty-four across the pair, 0.72 carat in total. Seventeen circle each stone, which is what gives the halo its unbroken line.

3. Why is the halo white gold when the rest is yellow?
To keep the diamonds looking white. A yellow setting reflects warmth into a small stone and takes the edge off its colour; white metal does not. The claws holding the jade stay yellow, because warm gold against green is what makes the green read strongest.

4. Are these 18k?
Yes, 18k stamped 750 - 75 percent pure gold. Our gold hallmark guide covers where to find the marks and what they mean.

5. Can I wear them every day?
They are built for it - a stud with no moving parts and a stone held on four claws. The sense to apply is storage: keep them away from harder stones, since jade scratches more easily than it breaks, and wash occasionally in warm soapy water with a soft brush. See our Jade Care Card and Gold Care Card.

How to Style the Jade and Diamond Halo Studs

The most formal pair in the jade group and the easiest to wear - a cluster stud goes with a suit, a shirt or a dress without argument. Hair up or down; they sit flat enough for either. Explore the full 14k and 18k Gold collection, see more Earrings, or visit JewelBuild™ to build a set around them.

Caring for Your Fine Gold Piece

14k and 18k gold is a precious metal investment. With proper care it holds its colour and quality indefinitely — fine gold does not tarnish, but it can scratch and dull without attention.

Daily wear Remove during heavy physical activity, cleaning, and gardening
Cleaning Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, soft brush — rinse and dry with a lint-free cloth
Storage Store separately — gold scratches easily when touching other metals
Professional care Annual professional polish recommended for fine pieces
Avoid Chlorine, bleach, harsh chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners for pieces with stones
