Jade and Diamond Cluster Earrings - Deep Green Capsule in 18k

A long capsule of jade on each ear, 11 x 5mm, domed and set in a plain gold bezel, with a full pavement of small round diamonds worked around it in a soft-cornered rectangular plate. Thirty-two diamonds across the pair, 0.56 carat in total. The jade is the most saturated green in the collection, with a darker inclusion visible near the top of each stone and a paler zone running along one side - the unevenness that only grows. Made in 18k solid gold, 4.32 grams for the pair.

The elongated cabochon is a deliberate choice and a harder one than an oval. A long dome has to be ground with an even rise from end to end or the highlight breaks into two, and any variation in the material runs the full length of the stone where it cannot be hidden under a claw. Setting it in a plain bezel rather than claws was the right decision twice over: it protects a long edge, and it puts an unbroken line of warm gold between the green and the white.
