At 10.5mm wide, 14.3mm tall and 6mm deep, weighing 2.55g, it is small enough to layer freely and light enough for a fine chain.

Shrinking a solitaire design usually costs it something, but here the opposite happens - because the bear is smaller, the heart takes up proportionally more of the chest, so the stone reads as even more central than it does on the larger version. 1. Is the heart a real diamond?
No, and we would rather say so plainly. It is a faceted heart-cut crystal - a costume stone, cut and set the way a gemstone would be. The honesty is so you know exactly what you are buying and how to care for it.

2. How does it differ from your larger solitaire bear?
Only in scale. The full-size version is 13.3 by 17.8mm and 4.75g, with more presence and more heft in the hand. This one is 10.5 by 14.3mm and 2.55g - easier to layer, gentler on a fine chain, and the two look deliberate worn together as a pair.

3. Is the stone secure?
It sits in a raised bezel rather than on claws, which is the more protective of the two settings - the metal wraps the girdle of the stone all the way round, so there is nothing to snag on a sleeve and nothing to bend out of place.

4. It reacts slightly to a magnet - is that a problem?
No. Cast stainless steel normally contains a small amount of ferrite, deliberately, because it stops the metal cracking as it solidifies - that is what a magnet finds.
