Classic Sun Charm - Two-Tone Stainless Steel Coin - 16.2x18.5mm
A Sun With a Face, Struck Through the Metal
A round silver-tone disc with a raised rim, and inside it a gold-tone sun - a full face with closed, contented eyes and a small smile, ringed by wavy flame rays that reach out to the rim. It is not an abstract sunburst. It is the sun as it appears on old maps and clock dials, with a personality.
Turn it over and the charm is not blank. The sun is struck right through the metal, so its shape rises on the reverse as an embossed silver relief - the same face, but as an impression pushed through from the front rather than a second finished side. The raised rim and the gold are on the front only; the back is flat silver with the sun standing proud of it. It means the charm still reads as finished when it spins on the wrist, which is more than most coin charms manage.
At 2.95g it has a satisfying heft, and there are no stones on it at all - the whole effect comes from the two metal tones and the depth of the casting.

Choose Charm only to add it to a bracelet you already own. Charm + Clasp adds a small lobster clasp so it clips straight on - no pliers, no open links - and it works just as well on a bag, a zip pull, a keyring or a watch strap. Charm + Gold Chain or Charm + Silver Chain pairs it with our Gold or Silver Paperclip Chain Bracelet - fine-gauge stainless steel, adjustable from 16cm to 20cm. Bought as a set they cost 30% less than buying separately. Because this charm is two-tone, either chain works with it.
Giving the sun a face is a very old habit and a strangely stubborn one. Roman soldiers carried Sol Invictus, the unconquered sun, on coins struck for the winter solstice - the point in the year when the light stops shrinking and starts coming back, which is the entire reason the sun was worth a god. Medieval mapmakers put the same face in the corner of the world; Baroque clockmakers put it on the dial. It survives on tarot cards and weather symbols still. What it has always meant is not warmth but reliability: the one thing that has never once failed to return. A gift for her for someone who gets other people through the winter. With no set stones and no enamel, this is one of the most forgiving charms we sell - stainless steel does not tarnish, rust or turn skin green. The only real care is the recessed detail around the sun's face, which will hold hand cream and soap; rinse, dry, and brush occasionally with a soft dry toothbrush. Full guidance at our Stainless Steel Care Card and the JewelCare™ hub.
FAQs
1. Is there a sun on both sides? Not quite, and it is worth being precise. The front is the finished face - a gold sun set inside a raised silver rim. The back is the same sun embossed: the shape pushed through the metal so it stands in relief on flat silver, with no rim and no gold. Not a second face, but not a blank back either.
2. Are there any stones? None. This one is entirely metal, which also makes it the easiest in the batch to look after.
3. Gold or silver bracelet? Either. It is two-tone, so it bridges both.
4. Can it be engraved? No - the embossed sun runs across the whole reverse, so there is no flat panel to cut into. If you want an engraving surface, the Northern Star octagon (IHSMC049) has a completely blank polished back.
5. Does it pair with a moon? It does - IHSMC053, IHSMC054 and IHSMC055 are all crescents in this same release.
How to Style the Sun
Sun and moon on the same bracelet is the easiest win in charm styling, and this release gives you three moons to choose from. Hang the sun at one side and a crescent at the other with plain links between, and the bracelet tells a whole day. On its own it also works as a small pendant.
