JewelSnap #026 · Jewellery history
Long before it was style, jewellery was meaning.
Why meaning still matters
Wearing something that means something to you gives you a quiet link to a person, a place or a hope. It is not a treatment, just a small everyday comfort.

The first jewellery
Perforated shell beads found in Morocco date to about 142,000 years ago, and their perforations suggest they may have been worn as a marker of identity. In most cultures since, jewellery has signalled status or belonging, and amulets were widely worn to protect against harm. Greek and Roman jewellery was often believed to guard against the evil eye.
