1. Why does 925 sterling silver tarnish in storage?
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver alloyed with 7.5% other metals, usually copper — that is what the 925 hallmark means. Those trace metals react with sulphur compounds in the surrounding air, and a closed box concentrates rather than removes them. 2. How many strips do I need?

3. Do the strips touch the jewellery, and are they safe on stones?

5. Do they work on gold and other metals?
They are formulated for silver, which is the metal that tarnishes most readily. Solid gold does not tarnish, so it needs no protection of this kind, though a strip in a shared box does no harm. Silver-plated items and silver-topped pieces benefit in exactly the same way as solid sterling.
