Crystal Outline Heart Charm - Gold Stainless Steel - 17.5x19mm
An Open Heart, Drawn Rather Than Cast
An open heart outline in gold-tone stainless steel, with no back and no fill - just a single molten-looking band that thickens and thins its way round the shape and finishes in a small dripping tail at the base. Five small clear crystals are set into the right-hand side of the band, spaced unevenly, so the sparkle sits off-centre rather than symmetrically.
At 17.5mm wide by 19mm tall it is one of the larger charms in this release, but because the centre is completely open it weighs only 1.13g - lighter than charms half its size. That combination is the point of it: visual scale without the drag on the wrist.

An outlined heart with nothing inside it is not the same symbol as a solid one, and jewellers have used the difference deliberately since at least the Georgian era. A filled heart is a heart given; an open one is a heart still open - unfinished, available, or simply not yet spoken for. The crystals are glue-set into shallow cups, which is normal at this price and perfectly durable in ordinary wear - but it does mean keeping the charm out of showers, swimming pools, hot tubs and ultrasonic cleaners, all of which attack the adhesive rather than the stone. 1. Are these diamonds?
No. They are clear crystals - glue-set rhinestones, not diamonds and not cubic zirconia unless a piece says so specifically. They are chosen for brightness rather than hardness, which is why the care note above matters.
2. Can the back be engraved?
No. The band is shaped on both sides and the centre is open, so there is no panel. The Pave Arch (IHSMC069) is the flat-backed piece in this release.
3. It reacts slightly to a magnet - is that a problem?
No. Cast stainless steel normally contains a small amount of ferrite, deliberately, because it stops the metal cracking as it solidifies - that is what a magnet finds. 4. Why are the crystals only on one side?
That is the design - the sparkle is deliberately asymmetric so the charm reads as drawn by hand rather than stamped. All five are on the right-hand limb.
