A Black Pupil in a Gold Eye
A round disc in two-tone stainless steel with a hammered silver face, carrying a gold almond eye at the centre. The pupil is a 1.2mm black gem, and five clear crystals sit above the eye as lashes with gold rays between them. It measures 15.2mm wide by 17.6mm tall including the bail.
At 2.4g and 2.5mm thick it has real weight for a disc this size, and the hammered silver ground scatters light around the eye rather than reflecting it flatly. The reverse is mirror-polished plain silver, flat and unmarked.

1. What is the black stone?
A 1.2mm black gem set as the pupil - it is a glue-set stone rather than enamel, which is why it has a glassy shine rather than a flat colour.
2. Can the back be engraved?
Yes, technically - the reverse is flat, blank and mirror-polished. Bear in mind a mirror finish shows engraving beautifully but also shows every fingerprint.
3. The back looks black in the photo - is it?
No. That is a mirror polish reflecting the dark surround. Photographed at an angle the same surface reads pale silver, and in the hand it is plain bright silver.
4. It reacts slightly to a magnet - is that a problem?
No. Cast stainless steel normally contains a small amount of ferrite, deliberately, because it stops the metal cracking as it solidifies - that is what a magnet finds.
