Classic Seahorse Charm - Gold Stainless Steel - 8.6x26.4mm
Classic Seahorse Charm - The Heaviest Charm in the Range
A seahorse sculpted fully in the round from gold-tone stainless steel - the arched neck, the crowned head, the ridged bony plates running the length of the body, and the tail curling into a tight spiral at the base. It stands 26.4mm tall but only 8.6mm wide, and at 4.5mm deep it is the most three-dimensional piece we make: this is a small sculpture rather than a shape.
At 3.37g it is the heaviest charm in the range, and you feel it - the ridging is cut into solid metal on both faces, not pressed into one side. That density is the point of the piece. Hung alone on a chain it has the weight of a proper pendant; on a bracelet it is the anchor everything else is arranged around. No stones, no enamel, high polished throughout.

Choose Charm + Gold Chain and this charm arrives with our Gold Paperclip Chain Bracelet - fine-gauge stainless steel, elongated 4mm x 12mm links drawn from 1mm wire, closing with a lobster clasp and an extender that runs the fit from 16cm out to 20cm, so it settles on most wrists. Bought as a set they cost 30% less than the charm and the bracelet separately. Prefer to choose your own base? Build the whole stack at JewelBuild™.
The Greeks gave Poseidon a chariot pulled by hippocampi - seahorses grown to the size of horses - and sailors carried the small ones as protection on the water. What makes it a modern favourite is biology rather than myth: the male seahorse carries the eggs and gives birth, so it has become the symbol for fathers, for shared load, and for anyone who does the quiet carrying. It also mates for life. A gift for her, or for him, on the strength of that. More motif meanings at JewelMotif™ · Watch & read: Greek Jewellery - Beauty, Myth and Meaning
No stones and no enamel means nothing here can work loose. The gold tone is ion-plated onto stainless steel, far harder-wearing than the flash plating used on costume charms - keep it away from perfume, chlorine and abrasive cloths and it holds its colour. Despite the motif, salt water and chlorine are the two things to keep it out of. Full guidance at our Steel Care Card and the JewelCare™ hub.
FAQs
1. Is 3.37g heavy to wear?
Not on a bracelet - it is still under three and a half grams. You will notice it more than our 1g charms, which is the appeal: it swings with a bit of weight rather than fluttering. On a fine chain it hangs straight and stays put.
2. Can I wear it swimming, given it is a seahorse?
Best not. The steel itself is fine, but chlorine and salt both attack the ion-plated gold finish over time. Take it off before the pool or the sea and it keeps its colour for years.
3. Can the back be engraved?
No - it is sculpted on both sides with the ridging cut into each face. Our flat-backed charms are the ones for a name or a date.
4. Is it magnetic?
No - this one tests completely non-magnetic. Some steel charms respond slightly and some do not; both are normal, because cast stainless steel varies in ferrite content. Full explanation in Is Magnetic Steel Jewellery Fake?.
5. Does it work as a necklace pendant?
It is the best pendant in the charm range. At 26.4mm tall and 3.37g it has the proportions of a proper pendant, and the narrow 8.6mm width keeps it elegant rather than bulky.
How to Style the Seahorse
Tall and narrow, so it needs vertical clearance rather than width - hang it at the centre of a FortunaLink™ bracelet with short charms either side. It sits naturally beside our turtle and starfish pieces for a full ocean run. Browse the whole MiniCharm™ range, or start your stack at JewelBuild™.
