JewelSnap #022 · Jewellery materials
Two metals, two jobs: know which one you are wearing.
Why it helps to know the metal
Knowing what a piece is made of takes the guesswork out of choosing. Many people keep stainless steel for everyday favourites and choose zinc alloy for playful, lighter pieces. Mix and match them as you like, and it is all part of making a piece feel like yours.

What each metal is
Stainless steel is an iron-based alloy that contains at least 10.5% chromium. The chromium forms a thin protective film on the surface that helps stop rust. Zinc alloys are widely used for casting small, intricate shapes because they melt at a low temperature, and pure zinc is known to tarnish over time.
