Verification Process

To support your jewellery journey, JewelHub® offers three learning systems:

Below is a complete guide on how to verify each material type:

Fine Jewellery (Gold, Platinum, Precious Metals)

  • Hallmark: Official assay marks confirming purity (e.g., 750, 916, 950).
  • Magnetic Test: Fine metals are not magnetic.
  • Weight: Dense and heavy compared to plated or base metals.
  • Sound: Soft, warm resonance when gently tapped.
  • Colour: Consistent tone; no flaking or uneven patches.

925 Sterling Silver

  • Hallmark: Look for “925”, “Sterling”, or official UK assay marks.
  • Magnetic Test: Genuine silver is not magnetic.
  • Weight: Medium weight; heavier than stainless steel but lighter than gold.
  • Sound: Bright, clear chime when tapped.
  • Softness: Slightly soft; may show gentle wear over time.
  • Colour: Bright white tone; natural tarnish is normal and easily cleaned.
  • Verification Cloth: A complimentary Town Talk Silver Polishing Cloth is included with your purchase for verification and care.

Stainless Steel (304, 316L)

  • Magnetic Test: 304 steel may be slightly magnetic; 316L is usually non‑magnetic.
  • Weight: Heavier and more solid than silver.
  • Sound: Sharp, bright metallic ring.
  • Colour: Cool grey tone; does not tarnish.
  • Scratch Resistance: Highly resistant to everyday wear.

Titanium Steel

  • Magnetic Test: Typically non‑magnetic.
  • Weight: Lighter than stainless steel; comfortable for daily wear.
  • Sound: Softer, muted tap compared to steel.
  • Colour: Smooth, modern grey; highly corrosion‑resistant.
  • Durability: Extremely strong; ideal for DuoTone™ and multi‑style designs.

Zinc Alloy (Fashion Jewellery)

  • Magnetic Test: Often slightly magnetic.
  • Weight: Lighter than stainless steel.
  • Colour: Usually plated; finish may vary.
  • Sound: Softer, duller tap.
  • Care: Keep dry; store in a pouch to maintain finish.
